　　内容提要: Pfeffer’s expertise and research in key policy areas, including land use and environmental planning, rural and agricultural labor markets, and rural-to-urban and international migration, have helped Cornell develop a reputation with policy makers for innovative solutions to pressing social issues. His academic work focuses on a variety of rural and urban communities in New York, Mexico, and Central America. This talk will focuses on agriculture and development with an historical perspective, but focused on contemporary and future issues.

　　报告人简介：MAX JOHN PFEFFER, 康奈尔大学农学院与生命科学学院院长。PFEFFER博士专注于关键政策制定方面的研究，特别是土地使用、环境规划、乡村及偏远地区劳动力市场、农村转移人口和国际移民等方面的问题。由于其创新性的研究成果解决了许多社会问题，美国相关法律政策的制定均受其影响较大。其研究由美国健康研究中心（NIH）、美国自然科学基金、美国环境保护署等多个重点项目的资助。

　　内容提要: Dr. Parra’s research examines the role of immigration, acculturation and poverty in the health status of minority populations, and the processes that facilitate immigrant integration. The focus of her research is one of disease and risk prevention, with special emphasis on applied research to design and test interventions to achieve long-term health behavior change. She has been awarded grants from the National Institute for Mental Health, the US Department of Agriculture, the Social Science Research Council, and has published on health related issues.

　　报告人简介：Parra博士的研究专注于移民的文化适应和贫困对少数族裔的健康状况的影响，以及移民融入新的社会环境的过程中的各种问题。其中，对于疾病和各种风险的预防是研究重点。其研究结果对于如何采取合理的预防性干预措施以达到少数族裔移民的长期健康有重要应用价值。Parra博士的研究由社会科学委员会、美国农业部、美国精神健康国家研究中心等多个项目资助。
